THE WHAT? Despite its ambitious sustainability agenda, Unilever has reported a 2 percent increase in greenhouse gas emissions thanks to a rising use of personal care products such as deodorant and hairspray in the wake of the pandemic, according to a report published by Bloomberg.
THE DETAILS While Scope 1 and 2 emissions dropped 13 percent in 2022, Scope 3 emissions rose 15 percent as a result of emissions from ‘direct consumer use’ of HFC propellants, namely deodorants, body sprays and deodorants.
THE WHY? Bloomberg reports that consumption of personal care products such as deodorant has risen as pandemic related restrictions have lifted and the world has started socialising once more.
