THE WHAT? Albania is poised to legalise cannabis for medical and industrial use, according to a report published by Balkan Insight.
THE DETAILS The Albanian government canvassed the opinion of its citizens via a National Survey and some 61 percent were in favor of legalisation, per Balkan Insight.
THE WHY? Albania has long attempted to tackle the growing and trafficking of cannabis and it is thought that legalisation will help the authorities get a handle on the trade. Minister of Health, Ogerta Manastirliu told Balkan Insight, “The purpose of this draft law is to regulate and guarantee the process of contirl and supervision of cultivation, production, processing and export of the cannabis, its by-products and final products.”
