THE WHAT? Henkel has reported its results for the first quarter of fiscal 2023. The German manufacturer of Schwarzkopf reported sales of €5.6 billion, up 6.6 percent in organic terms.
THE DETAILS Henkel’s new Consumer Brands unit reported nominal sales growth of 7.3 percent to €2,77 billion (+7 percent in organic terms) with the Hair category getting a special mention for its strong 9.9 percent sales growth, thanks to double-digit growth in the Consumer business driven by the Hair Styling category.
All regions achieved organic sales increases in the first quarter, with growth in North America and Asia-Pacific noted as ‘very strong’ and Latin America and IMEA generating double-digit rises.
Accordingly, Henkel has confirmed its guidance for fiscal 2023, forecasting organic sales growth of between 1 and 3 percent for the year.
THE WHY? Henkel CEO Carsten Knobel, reveals, “We had a good start to the year – despite a continuously challenging market environment. The very strong sales increase in both business units underlines the strength of our portfolio of successful brands and innovative technologies. In the first quarter, we continued our pricing measures to further compensate for the headwinds from raw material and logistics costs. Today we affirmed our guidance for 2023 and, based on the very strong organic sales development in the first quarter, we are looking at the current fiscal year with confidence.”
