THE WHAT? Aiming to reduce the amount of packaging going to landfill, Sephora has announced a new nationwide empties program in the U.S. named Beauty (Re)Purposed, according to a report by Glossy.
THE DETAILS Launching in May, some 600 stores across the U.S. and Canada will accept empty packaging from any brand and will recycle it via it’s non-profit partner Pact.
Sephora will be sharing information about the project across social, digital and stores.
THE WHY? The prestige beauty retailer states that it has a ‘responsibility to help lead industry-wide collaboration and change to support circularity.’
Desta Raines, Sephora’s Director of Sustainability, continued: “The reality is that discarding beauty packaging can be complex for many people, including beauty consumers. It was important for Sephora to find a partner like Pact who shares our values and, in collaboration, can help to educate our clients and the broader industry about making the process [of recycling] more intuitive and accessible for all.”
